Your A/C & heater appears to be the same as the RRC 90 to 93 version

The fan speeds (on the RRC) are regulated via a "resistor wire windings" ... Looks like a "old fashioned" white rod with winding of wire around it ... In the RRC it is located inside the "external vent inlet" (above the bonnet) .... on the passenger side

I would suggest that yours has the same resistor fan speed method ..... you can tell when they totally fail, cause all you get is MAX fan speed only

Good luck if it's shot, cause their hard to get new / only found them in the USA .... and it's on "back order" from my Local LR supplier (yep, I need 2 of them .... )

The switch sounds like its loose inside,I fixed one on a 92 RR recently. The tin tags holding the switch together need tightening up. You could open it up and check/clean inside it as well.

I replaced the resistor too so I know how hard that is to get at! Got a second hand one from TRS and crimp joined the harness.

Little off shoot here .... on the USA site on how to "remove / replace the resistor pack" ..
They say (working outside at the passenger external vent) undo the rivets / screws ... grab it and pull the harness through the front (external) air vent and the joining connection plug pulls through ... Is this how you have done it???

or did you go the "remove heater" method ....

I now have heater out. This thing takes up half the car. Now to pull him apart.

We had half the dash out, had a look, pulled the resistor and grommet out the front as far as it would go, cut the wires, joined the replacement on with extra wire length, pushed the wires, joiners and "new" grommet back in to seal the hole. Can't remember if we had to tidy wires inside, I think we just shoved it in and it hasn't given any trouble. This was about November last year.

Ok, heater is out and pulled apart. I think the motor needs some attention, there weren't any sticks or leaves jamming up the works.

is the green thing the speed resistor?
