Pics of alpine window rust starting...should I worry?

That's all the rust in the alpine windows and the only rust on the car...is this stuff going to cause havoc?

That's pretty advanced rust for that area Angus. Get it looked at asap.

I know you say you've checked elsewhere but have you checked under your all your floormats by unscrewing and lifting the plastic edge panels and having a good bo-peep (especially in the back)?

Ouch that is bad. It is a relatively easy DIY fix (having said that you have a hard paint colour and a lot of it to match up) ......have a search through forums for some tips. Use of a small ring spanner to reinsert centre locking bead is a great tip.

You need to look at your rear cargo bay floor pronto as this is where the water is going and this can get out of hand if not fixed. Interestingly they usually rust at the top of the alpine first so you might have something different happening ......it may be the result of a prior fix gone wrong.

Yes you should worry but only if you want to keep the car for a long time.

It comes down to what is it worth to you. If it just an old roughy then don't worry. If it is your pride and joy and want to keep it in top condition then you best do something about it.

If you take the inside trim off where the alpine window is, you will probably find the inside channel is rotten too. As said check your cargo area floor to see if it is rusted out under the carpet

Yes it is worth worrying about. I got mine done a lot earlier than that. Get in there before it gets completely out of hand and its still relatively cheap to fix.

Would this be the kind of thing that would be cheap enough to pay someone to fix? I'll have a look in the DIY section but I've never done any body work myself before...I suppose there is always a first time.

How do I get the rear carpet up? I went to pull it up but there is some other spongy bit under the carpet like some kind of cushion and I couldn't seem to get it all up yet...granted I haven't tried very hard. God I hope that's not rusted...I know there are two scuba gas tanks under the rear cargo floor...would that have altered that area much or do they just get stuck to the underside of it?

There's some pics of my cargo bay floor...at least as much as I could see because I couldn't rip the whole thing out without making a real mess of it. But it's definitely not wet under there at all. A bit dirty just from dirt getting in so it needs a sweep but there is no moisture and definitely no kinds of rust. From what I can see anyway.

Unscrew and remove the black floor strip......the lowest part of the floor is under there and where water goes to and rust starts first and will be the worst. You can see rust staining in your pics where has been washed forward from there via the lower outer channel on each side of the floor. You have caught it in time it seems ...or could be nothing.

Gee dude, did you buy the car, THEN decide to look at it? I mean, you've got a few threads going around, questions that should of been answered before handing over your cash

Just don't pick at it, get inside and treat the rust with rust convertor and apply rust proofing, that will slow it alot
