Exclamation When driving through large puddles, she steers like an oil tanker!

    Good afternoon,

As the title suggests, when I drive the beast through a large puddle and steer at the same time, the steering goes heavy to the point where it's almost too hard to turn further. This has obvious safety implications!

Has anybody experienced this? I imagine it's water on a belt or similar....

Are there any modifications that can prevent it?

    She's a 300tdi manual.

    Cheers,

    Matt

    You answered your own question..........

Make sure the belt is in good condition, as well as the tensioner, if not then renew as needed, but even then deep enough water will cause the issue a little.

You may need to define Large Puddles.

All cars when driven through water, especially deep water will pull one way or another.
If you loose total control however that is another matter.
Get the belt checked, actually get the whole front end checked.

Mine once had a similar wobble and feel when I took my steering damper out as I hit it on a rock and bend the crap out of it.
I quickly got a new one.

"attach a rudder maybe?" - Would have helped when I sunk it once.......but that's another story.

I'll get the belts checked tomorrow. It's mostly when I go through puddles with the left wheel.

It scares the ***** out of me when it happens during a sharp left turn and she just wants to go straight!

    Cheers guys.
