    wheel bearings on D1 tdi

    Hi guys,
Does anyone know how much play your allowed in the front wheel bearings?
I've got approx 1-3mm play in mine, had it down to the mechanic today and he says that its fine(but booked in next tuesday for further investigation).
Theres no noise at any speed, but when you go over the filled up potholes, the steering shakes ever so slightly, with a (very soft)thud type of sound.
Any ideas will be greatly appreciated..

depending on if you want to set it up truck style or car style.

IMHO no movement at the rim or the hub is acceptable.

Theres dozens of threads in here on how to adjust them and for the sake of about $40 in tools (total assuming you have no tools of your own) changing and adjusting the wheel bearings is a fairly easy task.

    Hi

Im to the opinion that next to no play for wheel bearings. You possibly need to adjust the king pin bearings in the swivel hub, this can give the car a slight wobble over bumps.
