    Kaymar dual wheel carrier for D1 released Feb 2010

    I have just been looking at the Kaymar website and they are releasing a revised version of the D1 rear bar with dual swing aways. I don't know if I can justify the massive cost but it is there. Might still have to make my own don't think I can justify nearly $800 per swing away + almost 2g for the bar alone.

    Why ?, their sales wont make it worth while, kaymar were never keen on landy rear bars back in the day so why change now.

    I'm surprised they are thinking of starting production up again. I went in about 3 years ago and they had their very last one on the shelf and said they had stopped making them because there was not enough demand. And at nearly $3400 for a bar kit - geez that is a lot of $$$ for a car that is probably worth somewhere between 3 - 7K.

    It is a bit hard to tell from the photo but it seems even with the increase in overhang the combo of bar and hitch has a better departure angle compared to using say a HR hitch and OEM bar???

    The Kaymar replacements bars usually maintain oem or slightly decrease oem departure angles.

    Hi Guys,

    Spoke to the good folk at Kaymar and they said they won't do dual spare wheel carriers for this bar, only single and a gerry can holder.

    Seeing as I am on the hunt for dual spares, and would have to modify a very expensive bar anyway I've decided I might as well make my own from scratch.

    Not that it would ever be as professional as a Kaymar bar, but it'll be exactly what I want at less than half the cost, even with farming out a few bits and pieces here and there.

    Ha, yes it seems the only option left for disco 1 owners that want to carry 2 spares on the bar is to make your own. I have not yet found any company in Aus that makes a dual wheel carrier for a disco 1 and I have been looking for 6 months. I stand to be corrected if some one knows of one?

    I'm guessing that there have been a few inquiries into Disco 1's as of late hence they are offering the bar again, but, one of the reasons most people would be after an aftermarket bar is to carry dual spares so it would seem that they have have mis read this part of the market. Seems to me that most aussie manufactures and sellers aren't taking the LR part of the market seriously now that peoples perceptions have changed and different types of owners are driving them and they have not moved on from "if it ain't from Japan, it ain't worth the trouble" mentality.

    I suppose the increase of "normal" (no offence to LR peeps who have been that way from birth) fourwheeling types who now see the disco as a realistic alternative and a bloody good off roader (that being me, but I'm not normal) would mean that this part of the market is on the rise, and hopefully the Australian aftermarket industry can get behind the vehicle and offer the range that they offer for other vehicles, this particular case with Kaymar is my point exactly.

    Maybe thats why I like rovers, that mostly the modded rovers I see are products of their owners, not a catalogue and a large credit card debt?

    The other point is who would spend 6 to 7 grand on bull and rear bars when they bought their car for 5? It must be hard for companies to gauge what will sell and what won't, but if you do offer something, at least make it what consumers are looking for?

    IIRC the pivot points is exacty the same for the wheel carrier and the jerry holder and it will just be the frame that holds the wheell or jerry can that would require remanufacturing.

    Perhaps the difficulty would be the width of two wheels side by side may not match up to place them centrally across the back of the car. So perhaps some measurements of the display model would identify how much work would be required to get you what you want
