    Remove/disconnect ACE?

    1. I had a few problems with my D2a 2003 ACE:

    a. Slow leak from front hydraulic ram.

    b. Fast leak from loose banjo fitting on the ACE pump, spraying all the fluid out of the ACE reservoir in 30 seconds.

    2. Especially for #1b, the car cannot be driven, because the main belt drives the ACE pump, and:

    a. Without fluid, the ACE pump can overheat and seize, costing more dollars; and,

    b. This might shred the belt, which will definitely leave you stranded (unless you can replace the belt in the bush).

    QUESTION: So, I'm wondering

    a. Can I disconnect the ACE system to improve reliability in the bush? If so, what needs to be done?

    b. Can I keep ACE running and have a bush solution in case the system fails?

    Cheers.

Sounds like the fitting has been played with?

Yours would be one of the very few ACE systems to go bad. If they are just leaks then I would fix them. The system is too good to just throw away.

Anyway, Its probably worth just checking if a non-ACE belt will fit.
    Cheers

Im with Slunnie, the ACE system is what makes the D2 a step ahead of the rest "imo"..........only "known" faults are really Pressure transducers failing (done that) and leaking pipes due to corrosion......thats the "common" one, not had that (yet) touchwood lol, but if and when it raises its ugly head I will do my upmost to keep the ACE system.

To Disconnect / remove the ACE system "properly" you need

    1. Fit idler pulley in place of pump and new NON ACE belt
    2. Remove front and rear anti roll bars / actuators and fit NON ACE rollbars
    3. Tell the BCU its no longer fitted (diagnostic session)

Do you still want to remove the ACE system, I have a non ACE D2 that I would like to fit ACE to, we could do a swap? I have space, tools, and located in Canberra if that helps.

Good luck with that job, the amount of labour required will be ridiculous...and then getting it to work properly

When I had my D2a with ACE, I carried a shorter belt that bypassed the ACE pump. It was a 8PK1560 trimmed to 7 ribs, making it 7PK1560 which was not available. When fitted, the belt didn't have as much contact with the PS pump pulley as normal but it did not slip on full lock with the PS pump fully loaded.
