I would say: unlock the car with the key but do not open any doors, and do not use the remote, then lock with the key then unlock again using the remote, then try to start. This should cure the imobilizer.
Hello everyone,
I am in Malaysia work just now and wont be back for a while, just on the phone to my mate and he told me that my Disco will not start, he said that the read light was flashing very fast and it would try to turn over but then stop, then the alarm went off. That was a couple of days ago. Now when I asked him to try again he says the red light has stopped flashing but the car still will not start.
Has anybody had this before on there disco?
It sounds to me like the immobiliser.
by the was its a 99 TD5 auto
Sorry on a rig with the slowest internet and cant read through all the threads...
Thanks in advance
Gingz

cheers,
I will get my mate to give it a try and let you know how it went Viking
Mmmmm ... might sound obvious ... Tell ya mate to charge up the battery cause it's most probably flat (use a multi meter and see if it's got 12.6 volts)
Don't jump start it!!! .... just charge it ..... OR try a fresh battery
Mike
it will tomorrow......
....
cheers
My other mate got it started it was the battery....
Why should the Disco not be jump started? Whats worst with that Mike?
Cheers
Gingz
Good question actually ...
Strangely enough, I had visited my local specialised LR mechanic that morning, and he was looking fairly down .... I looked around and his yard was full of P38's and a couple of L322's
Whats wrong with em? ... I asked
Answer was all had computer failures from jump starting ... all owners were looking at replacement $$$$$$ computer parts!!!
So your posting reminded me of the importance that FULL voltage is available for starting rides like yours .... The hint that something can go "pear shaped" is that the Alarm went off it's tits when ya mate tried to start it ... IF he tried to jump start it (coupled up with flat battery), then the ECU +alarm system + etc, would have been starved of voltage and you run the risk of electrical spiking .... (when you try to crank the starter motor)
So it is better to charge properly or use a fresh battery
If your away for long periods ... You could try hooking up a solar panel to the battery, as they give a nice trickle charge, without cooking the battery ... Trick is tho, you will have to leave the car unlocked ... but that is OK if you have it locked up in a garage

Cheers Mike,
I will get my mate to put the battery on charge before am home.
How often should the battery be changed....am sure the battery was changed about 2 to 3 years ago.....is there a certain life span for the battery?
Gingz
My previous one lasted nearly 6 years (apparently)
you can buy trickle chargers,, just connect and forget,,

Gingz .... I'm not saying CHANGE the battery ... I'm saying ONLY use a fully charged battery ... My reference to a "fresh battery" is that you will be able restart your ride inside 15mins instead of waiting a day for a battery to get charged
Your original battery is fine ... it's just when you store your car for long periods, the battery gets drained because of the electrical system is still sucking power ... IE: Burgalar Alarm system & other electrical devises on "standby"
Use a very small AMP rated trickle charger .... As Pedro_The_Swift mentions ... all should be fine ....
I'm leaning towards a "trial" of a Solar panel, as it will give the battery a rest when the sun goes down
But as I mentioned before ... Don't lock the car if your charging ....
Mike
