The standard bellows type of flex joint is very restrictive due to the design of the internal limit-stop, much more so than the cat. I replaced the bellows (because it was rattling) with a 6" long wire one and noticed an improved throttle response immediately off idle witht he Tombie ecu upgrade and I/C.

. So far just blanked the EGR. Have a remapped ECU to be put in and decat downpipe (yet to go in. ran out of time the first time I had it unbolted and couldn't get the old pipe past the cross member
). Thanks to Linn Rover in Kewdale for the supply of second hand bits (ECU, downpipe and Samco silicone hoses). Just with the EGR blank saw improvements so really looking forward to getting the ECU in on Tuesday.
