    Why not ARB lockers?

Surely you can fit front and rear air lockers for that price?

There is no point mate in fitting lockers to front or rear or both without CDL....(and good lockers are $2k each...and traction control with CDL is a very persuasive argument to hold onto your cash re lockers)

I have priced a swap case complete and a new case complete and it is much cheaper if you go to the right place to get the D1 output housing fitted up...as long as you dont mind a high low switch on the dash and a push pull cable which is great I reckon - cause it is very direct and push/pulls half an inch.

    Cheers

PS. It is a fantastic addition...I have used mine a lot off road over 8 years since I bought my 02 new and I dont know why I didnt do it before.

    Not sure I agree

    Beg to differ mate...

If all 4 wheels are locked (that is, 2 lockers activated), then I reckon there are very few circumstances when you will have no traction. If one rear wheel and one front wheel are the only items getting traction, you still have traction. The ONLY time you won't have movement is if you only have ONE wheel on the ground.....(and I'd like to see that.....)

And with CDL and no axle lockers, you can still get stuck. If your front spins, power will be transferred to the rear, and if anything at the rear then also slips, you're stuck. You'll have probably one wheel each end spinning and bugger all happening.

Not sure that this is correct.

My understanding is that if you lose traction on both front wheels (or both rear wheels) in this case, without CDL all the drive will basically go to the wheels without traction, thereby rendering the diff lock on the opposite end useless.

    Could be wrong though ............

BM is correct - the only thing that makes sure drive is distributed equally front and rear (ie 50% to the front axle and 50% to the rear) is CDL...without that lockers are a waste of cash, and CDL with traction control allows a very very good combination (not QUITE lockers but not so far off that many people with that combination on this board have saved their cash). Jake, with CDL engaged and traction control working both axles have drive, and if one wheel on EACH axle at the same time is slipping the ETC will effectively transfer drive through pulsing the brakes to the heel with traction.

    Cheers

BMKal, your not wrong. CDL should go in first to guarantee drive front and back.

Plus this excessive wheel spin causes the center diff to wear much quicker, causing excessive back lash. This also has an effect downstream on the diffs, which also doesn't like the wheel spin. Better to lock the center in and, much more control that way as well.

Another thing is. Have you ever tried reversing down a steep slippery hill without a cdl. It's downright dangerous and scares the stuffing out of you.

Having driven the same tracks with and without cdl in my d2. I would suggest it be the FIRST mod anyone does if they plan to go offroad. If just for the safety aspect.
