    Hi Dan
I did on my last change, around 6 weeks ago.
I dont think it was really needed as mine has been on synthetic oil all its life.
I had some left over from our Trytoo ownership years.
If you have ever seen inside a TD5,they are an acceptionally clean engine compared to Jap diesels.

AFAIK Dan,, the oil goes black because its doing its job,,
it collects all the bad bits and runs them through the TD5's very efficient oil filter,,

so the oils ok,, just black

lots of TD5 oil threads in the back pages,,

anyone want to put it teknikally?

To keep your TD5 clean my advise is to remove the EGR system and fit a blanking kit. They are easy to make yourself if you wish or are redily available in a kit. The benefits are no hot gasses back into the engine, full exhaust flow through the turbo and no soot being deposited back into the intake. The TD5 is an extreemly clean burning engine so no worries removing this un necessary and detramental device. My 2004 classic country's oil is only just starting to discolour at 6500 km. Oil used is Castrol 5W 30 sport fully synthetic. Noticed a real diference in the colour of the oil since fitting the EGR block. If your interested in keeping your vehicle long term, this mod is highly recommended. Regards Robbo.

What works really well is use a pair of clean rubber gloves, the give the grip needed to get a reasonable amount of purchase on the filter when re-installing, then re-tighten in a couple of weeks - also remember to apply some clean oil to the filter seal before installing the filter.

thats what i do to the rubber glovers are perfect for the job just make sure they are clean and dry

I am thinking of doing this to my 04 D2a. I understand the 04 D2 has some extra piping to remove. Do any of the kits cover this?
    Cheers
