yeah, sorry, i abbreviated the fact that there's no commercially available between 70 and 85 series in 235. my bad, and yes i know that i am about 10% out. but i also know that my exhaust is too loud, but that didn't stop the exhaust shop charging me to have it done how i wanted it.
also know that 2" + suspension lifts are supposed to be engineered, how many do ?

Recently with the changed rules there were a flurry of owners having their 4WD engineered, to the extent that some engineers were gauging their invoice price.
The problem is that with newer cars the manufacturers are being very specific about the allowable tyre sizes, even to the extent of insurance companies refusing to cover damage to vehicles that have other than the original tyre pattern and size. But yes we do understand that insurance companies are in the business or taking premiums, making profits and avoiding making payments on claims.
IMHO as we progress modifications to vehicles, including tyres, without engineering certification will become increasingly difficult if not impossible.

So what happens when they stop making your particular tyre, or better yet when as happens the manufacturer buys them in bulk cheap from some offshore manufacturer (happens on the likes of certain korean mfct's) and you can't get them locally. Or just want a tyre that doesn't suckass.
Some tyre services refuse to fit oversize tyres, as they are aware that they will equally liable in the event of an accident.

Just go to another tyre place. Someone will fit them.

If it comes to choice between tyres & a valid insurance policy, I think I will stick with the latter!

and fair enough too, but that doesn't help Rossco get his tyres fitted.
Roscoe, I've been through heaps of tyres on my D2 (2x 255/85, 2x 285/75, 1x 33x10.5, 1x 34x11.5) and I have never been questioned about the fitment of oversize tyres. Likewise at anytime the beads have been resealed etc.

can you imagine what an insurance company or litegation lawyer would do if they found out a tyre fitter had refused to fit your tyres and told you they were illegal and you got them fitted somewhere else anyway then had an accident even offroad. The laws may be stupid but is it worth it
PS I held a NSW PIA lic for over 20 years its amazing what people remember if they think they may be in trouble.
