This tyre ruling all sounds a bit "anal" to me !!!................and tbh I see no reason for it.....

as long as the tyre meets the speed and load rating for the vehicle and is fitted on the correct size rim for "that" particular tyre, cannot see why the rule was created in the first place

Fit what ya like over here (thank god)

yep, and you will note that my complaint was about the laws, not about the tyre fitting guys.

IMHO It just smacks of more beauracratic self serving job creation!

My D2a has 255/70*16's fitted ... by the letter of the law they are illegal !??

Who makes an offroad pattern 255/65*16 ?

The tyre place fitted them without blinking an eyelid ... the rego check dude didn't say a word ...

I've actually been told, by the tyre places, that for the wifes x-trail just to fit something that is close enough to size since in any sort of off road or "light truck" tyre (required for weight?) there is only 2 or 3 options available. Which as it turned out there was. But in car tyres there was a heap and since it never sees real off road duty then Dunlop Le Mans road patterns it was. Great on road which is what counts since she and the kids are in it. And size and weight/speed capacity wise they are legal.

What is a PIA? A Pain In the Arse?

When insurance companies can dictate such rubbish the terrorists have already won.

Same, I've had 33's and 35's on since it was about 1 or 2 years old. Nobody has ever said anything. Not rego, not insurance, not the police even when pulled over, not the tyre fitters.

Actually, I tell a lie, the police did once ask if the tyres were noisy... like they didn't hear a set of Jungle Trekkers pulling in.

Lets all hope the National Code of Practice comes in.

    I want to fit a 32" tyre.

When I sold my TD5 the RWC guy who the buyer selected, was a real pain in the a.. Even to the point when the airbag light came on due to a loose connection under the drivers seat he would not issue the RWC even though the connection was cleaned & tightened & the warning light went off.

Funny thing was he spent so much time looking at little things he did notice those big round things called tyres that were 32" tall.

If you were to put 50mm bigger tyres on as per the National COP does anyone know what the engineer would charge to sign off on the modification?

    Regards

    Chuck
