Thread: D2 wheels onto trailer ?

    Hi Roscoe

I recently tried to change the hubs on my trailer by fitting 505 GTi Pug hubs.

I found the centre of the axle was to small. best thing to do is as has been said. get some blank hubs drilled to fit the FR stud pattern then you can still use the $10 holden bearings.

    cheers

If I were building a new light trailer, I wouldn't be using Holden bearings even at $10.

    Two Reasons:
    1. I had a pair of $10 "ARK" Chinese made Holden bearings and they lasted less than 500KM before the hardening started breaking down.
    2. Holden bearings and stub axle are only rated at 1,000KG per axle.
For a light trailer I'd try for parallel bearings 2000KG+ per axle or at a minimum Slimline (Ford) bearings 1,450KG per axle.

We all know how often we see light trailers massively overloaded, with a broken stub axle left lying at the side of the road. Most frequently you will find that they have Holden patten stub axles, and the outer threaded part is just too small.

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.

I signed up today for a 45mm round axle, electric hubs (10") with Holden Commodore PCD (120mm) (I supply the 14mm studs -they'll drill the hubs and press them in for $44). did a mock up with a "commodore" dimension hub on a Disco2/RRP38 wheel and the hub boss fits perfectly just before it gets to the 47mm opening in the 16" rim...there's enough room to fit the axle bearing cap as well -no milling of wheel rim to expand hole necessary.

hub fitted with Japanese "Ford" slimline bearings...good for 1.4ton. Hub with parallel bearings won't fit the disco 2/ RR P38 16" alloy wheel (it's not a stud size issue but rather the length of the journal on the axle etc.

will post pics when I get all the bits and start putting it together next week

    cheers

    D2 wheels onto trailer ?

I just had a tube axle made with flanges to fit LR spindles and LR hubs. Works excellent

    Cheers
