    Central locking distance

Does everybody have to be so close to your D2 to activate the central locking you could touch it? I find this annoying and wonder if you could do the same mod as some forum members have done in Defenderland: Puma Remote Locking distance - FIXED!!!

You can double the distance with your remote if you stick your key to the side of your head like your going to blow your brains out and then push the unlock button on your key fob, i sh*t you not, i saw it on myth busters, myth confirmed.

Doktor Karl on Triple J suggested this idea as well, it works by using your body as an aerial. I've tried it with my disco but have found results are still poor, works well with commodores and falcons.

I tried with my D2 on flat ground with no interfirance from buildings, got out of range for my remote, put it to my head and it worked, my remote works from about 15-20mtrs away which i thought was about average.

Have you guys tried fitting a new battery to the remote.Mine works from 20m approx,at least, which is similar to all the D2's i have had.
In fact the D2 remote seems to work further than any other brand of car i have had.

Toyota hilux's take the cake for longest distance with remote, whether inside buildings or outside. I have one for work and it works from a fair distance, I also have no trouble locking the car from inside my house or our office. It has a downside when the remote works when you bump it in your pocket, I'm always paranoid at shopping centres that I will unlock the car as I walk away with the keys in my pocket.

Jeff my rangie was as you describe and despite a new battery didnt get much better. I think the receiver is as much the problem as the transmitter but I have no idea where the receiver is or how it works.

It's not so much remote central locking as close proximity central locking !

The head as an aerial idea works really well, and I found even better when you hold the fob to your chin !

    Cheers !
It's not broken. It's "Carbon Neutral".

Yep, the head thing works for my D2....even from the lounge room up onto the road. Also seems to attract the odd UFO and subsequent probe, but you get used to that....
