    Transmission Cooler Upgrade

    Hi Everyone,

I own a 01 TD5, at the end of this year, I will be dragging a 18'6" poptop around the country for a year or two. The GVM of the van is 1600kg. I have heard of people upgrading the transmission cooler. I spoke with MR Automotive- About $700.00.
Question 1: Is an upgraded cooler truly needed or is it a nicety?
Question 2: If not fitted, would it be better to run a synthetic trans oil?

I have budgeted to install it but...

First up will be heading south towards the Blue Mountains for 3 months then further south from there

Vehicle is an 01 TD5 with 115000kms on it.

    Cheers

    Kieren

The only way that you can tell for sure is to monitor the temp of your transmission fluid when you are towing. If you search past threads you will find much discussion on this issue and lots of information sources as to what temps the trans fluid will do the job at and when it will not.

    Good luck with it.

I have a P38 cooler that I might stick into the D2 if and when I get around to it.

For piece of mind go the P38 cooler. If you are travelling that far & for that distance, I would do it.

Truly needed... Wont hurt to fit a temperature guage in the trans pan either.

I'd recommend Penrite SIN ATF all the time, everytime....

    And welcome

Hi Tombie, I want to do this mod to my 02 Td5. What fittings do I get on the transmission end of the connecting hoses?

I understand the cooler end on the P38 unit are threaded.

    thanks
