    New to LR

    Hi All,
    I'm in the process of buying my first LR. I'm looking at a MY2003 Disco. Our school run is 80klms / day. Over dirt roads and when we are lucky its muddy and slippery too. I'm going against convention by going LR over a Cruiser. I'm looking forward to it being a good choice. I've already learnt alot from this forum and I'm sure to learn more. Is there anything BIG I should look out for when making my purchase? We are a few hundred K's from any town and want a reliable vehicle for the wife and kids. I'll get RACQ to check it over but I'm sure there is a chance they'll miss something.

    Hi Pete,
    Welcome to AULRO.
    I reckon you'd be wanting a TD5 over a V8 purely for economy?
    I bought a V8 so my advice on purchasing isn't the best!!

    Welcome to the forum

    When you get it do the usual check over for rubbing hoses/electricals.
    Top hose on the air/con on the TD5 for eg..
    Fit a low collant alarm do the maintanence and you will run rings around the crusers

    Yes, I'm looking at the TD5. Its listed as an 'S' but has seven seats. Is that model the D2a?

    The D2a is the update model run, I pick it from the headlamp with the round driving light in it.

    The D2a is the "facelift" model ... sorta looks like a baby Rangie front on with the pocket headlights

    The D2 just has the square headlights light the previous D1

    Hi Pete,

    Welcome, and your choice of a TD5is a good one.

    I second what has been said about a low coolant alarm, would not be without it. As far as the servicing, change the oil (I do mine each 5000K with a filter), drain the sedimenter regularly and keep the air filter clean and I am sure you will get many years out of it.

    The old adage of a diesel runs forever if it gets clean fuel, clean air and the oil is changed regularly is maybe not 'entirely' true, but it points you in the right direction.
