Thread: It maybe time for the D2 to go

It seems from what I read on here that the clutches in the TD5's dont last versus the V8 set up...otherwise mate they are such a good tonker toy just keep her going and enjoy. You would drop so much cash on a D3 and they have a hell of a lot to go wrong, and if you like your truck thats the main thing and it will be cheaper. I love the D2. They are the last of the LR's with character too in my opinion. They also look like a proper offroad machine with slightly bigger tyres and bar!

Its been a great car, and truthfully,I dont think I need to replace the clutch plate or the flywheeel, but have got them new to put in as the clutch etc has to come out to replace the fork, so if I renew them now then I should have no problem for atleast 120k, and I will now keep the car so maybe next time it needs replacing I will actually be on land and can do it myself..

The decision has been made for me anyway SWMBO says the disco stays so sounds good to me..maybe some flowers might be in order for such a good decision.

Well, this might be slightly off topic but recently i have driven two toyota prado's owned by family members, a 2002 95 series diesel manual and a 2005 120 series auto diesel, and both were very very average in my view as to driving experience, comfort quality etc. The 95 feels like a little tin box and the 120's suspension was a joke (had only 50k on clock) compared to the D2a. i just mention it because it may be the case that we have a few more niggles to contend with, but the d2 is a superior vehicle on road and off (well with a front bar fitted anyway) to the 95 at least, based on my experience. i guess my question is, what would you have instead? My uncle recently paid 4.5K to redo the head on his 95 prado. And it's still a shopping trolley to drive

A TD5 ...Bugger! ...that will teach me to skim read posts.

I should have realised straight away that it if at around 220K it will soon need engine work then it was always going to be diesel.

The trusty good old Rover V8s would just be starting to loosen up at that low milage.

Think its more the frustration of paying to get work done, when the clutch was only replaced 60k ago, again a job I paid to get done..

Oh well I should know, if its got wheels,it Floats, or tits its going to cost $$$

Think mine said something similar come to think of it...

Must've been a smart generation, or they realised along time ago what we are still learning today..
