    Big end

    Driving home from Phillip Island with trailer in tow we suddenly developed a major rattle. The sump came off today and it was full of bearing bits, they have got through the entire engine. I was having a great weekend until then.

    This is so disappointing Jeff.

    You have only had the D2 since February and then this. You have had a few minor issues with it which is what you would expect but to now have a major failure with a major repair bill must knock anyone around.

    Not good at all.

    Sorry to hear that. I had the same problem except that it was year 2001 and only 25k on the clock, Im guessing your warranty is expired!!! Hope you get it back on the road soon.

    When I bought it the oil cooler had been replaced, so perhaps it was run low on oil some time ago and that did the damage.

    I have picked up a low mileage TD5, and it will be going in soon. This should be cheaper than rebuilding the existing engine as the metal from the bearings got nearly everywhere.
