    Brake Bleed

    HI

I have done a search and been to the Good Oil.

I have just done a brake calliper reco and new brake lines.

I have also done a full Bleed staring with the Master Cylinder then all of the line in and out of the ABS.

I the did a manual bleed of all callipers and then did a power bleed on the Relay connections for the ABS.

I now have a firm pedal until I start the car, then it slowly pushes to the fire wall. with the engine running the second pump comes up hard. It then stays hard. But if I take my foot off for a short while it will fall to the floor like it doesn't have any fluid if I try again. Another pump and it's hard again.

    Have I missed something?

The inside of the fire wall is dry so I think my master cylinder is OK. could it be my Vacume pump? it still seems to pump.

I am a bit sick of these brakes. I just want to drive the thing.

    Cheers

    Matt

On the powerbleed,, did the pump slow down and speed up as you locked off the nipples?

yes it did slow down with the nipple shut off but I didn't run it long after it was shut off.

And i'm with pedro. If you have to wait till friday night you are doing somthing wrong, stop playing with your disco and go and do the dishes or vac the floor...... does wonders.

Well. I am all out of Ideas.

We (my wife and I) have Manually bled without the engine running, then did a power bleed with the ABS. Then a Power bleed and Manual Bleed with it running.

I then parked it on the hill with the engine facing down the hill over night.

repeated all of the above. Pumping enough fluid through the system to fill the res 3 times. The fluid is flowing very nicely, perfectly clear and bubble free.

With the engine running the pedal still requires a pump to bring it up hard take your foot off for a few seconds and back on the brake on the pedal slowly falls to the floor

This is with new pads recoed Callipers and new braided lines. Not loosing fluid anywhere.

HAVE I MISSED SOMETHING. I have never had this much trouble trying to bleed a system. This is not making sense.

Your urgent help is appreciated. any ideas?

No idea Matt ? ... maybe a faulty brake master cylinder ... or vacum booster circuit ??

When I bled my D2a brakes I used the Nanocom for a power bleed, didn't keep an eye on the reservior, and got air into the system ... was quicker to go back to the two man pedal down, nipple open/close, and repeat. Was quick to do (on all 4 wheel) and the brakes were good to go! Pretty simple really.

Check the vacum lines maybe is about all I can suggest at the moment ... or a dodgy master cylinder ... but it was Ok before you started the caliper rebuild, right ?

RAVE shows the bleed sequence for RHD as ...

    1 - Front LH
    2 - Front RH
    3 - Back LH
    4 - Back RH

... but a sinking pedal normally would'nt be air in the system.

    Hey Kev

The inside fire wall is as dry as a bone. I don't think it is the master Cylinder.

I have done a EGR removal. I have blanked off the applicable Vac lines as per the description on here

    www.discovery2.co.uk /workshop - EGR removal

I will try and get my rave disc working tonight and see if I can find the vac diagram.

    Any other ideas out there

    Cheers

    Matt

Only ever seen his on an older VW where the master cylinder cup washer had gone stiff and wasn't sealing against the cylinder. This was after bleeding (with different fluid). Is there any other way fluid could get from the "pressure" side back to the supply side of the circuit?
    Cheers,
    Steve
