Another look at this. This is a left hand drive model, USA or Europe.

In my experience, the most effective way to adjust the light on your dash, or whatever light you want to show off, would be changing your dash light bulbs to LED, then you install one of 12V dimmer switch right on the power wire before it goes to the dash light. This means you can simply adjust the power going into the dash light system. And because LED will response very sensitive with low power, you will see them a lot dimmer or brighter on your turn of switch.

I do believe that the original halogen dash light would response quite well to the dimmer switch as well.

    Something like this would work.

(Please correct me if I am wrong).
    You're kind of correct.

Right in that a PWM controller as linked is needed to "dim" LED - led don't actually dim, they are pulsed to produce less light - less on, more off time appears dimmer.

There seems to be lots on USA ebay for about $40 or so.
I wonder if the wiring is there to plug into?

Maybe for some LEDs, but the generic LED bulbs that fit into D1 and D2 dash lighting work fine with the AMR resistor thingie(as I fitted).

I was worried that it may not work, with the PWM/LED dimmer theory in mind, but it worked fine for me.

I was hoping more for a 3pin socket to plug the 3 pin plug into.

Seeing LR leaves redundant wires all over the place, some of which wear through the fuel manifold, the least they could do is leave a 3 pin socket in place for the dimmer.

You might find it hidden there between wires if you search for it

ON the D1, most probably yes.
On the two D2s(my V8 parter and bros TD5) so far I've checked, no!
    (bugger).
Could be well hidden tho, dunno, but my part V8 is in enough pieces to make it easy to find all wires and looms.
Just can't see it anywhere in that area, under dash pod, nor under dash on driver side.
