    Removing Rear Door Trim

I need to invert my wheel carrier as I have got a bigger spare tyre now. I know what I have to do to invert it, but just need detailed explanation/advice on removing the rear door trim. I have searched a lot about removing the trim specifically off a D2 but to no avail.

Firstly, I removed the screw holding the door handle on, but it still feels like it will snap off if i try and pull any harder to get it out.

Secondly, do I need to remove the latch?

Another thing, does it require a lot of pressure to remove the trim from the clips? I am scared they will snap off :P

    Thanks in advance.

    Regards,

    Michael

If I can do it, its the easiest thing in the world

You dont need to remove the latch itself, just the plastic surround which should pry out.
The cover itself is fastened to the rear door by use of 20 door plug studs.
    Note, RED studs.
Just lever up the cover very gently, using a wide bladed spatula or similar to avoid breaking the cover.
The door plugs studs will break, so you'll need more. I got mine
eBay Australia Shop - disco-compatible-parts: Discovery 300 series, Discovery 200 series, 300 tdi
These are Disco 1 door plugs, for the rear door, which are the same as those in the D2. Dont get D2 plugs, as these are for the other bits of trim. Get the RED ones.
The key is to not damage the cover itself, so care is needed to not bend it too much (get the spatula right next to the studs when you lift it off.
I did mine in a carpark whilst SWMBO went shopping, its that easy.

I've removed my cover several times. When levering off the plugs, try to get the spatula/ screwdriver (or whatever) under the lip of the plug itself, not lever the cover near the plug. The cover flexes and you break the plugs. Second issue is the plastic water liner behind the cover. If you remove it, its very hard to remove without irreversibly damaging it around the edges making it difficult to get back into place. What I've done is to not try to remove it but to cut the liner with a sharp knife (in an L shape) just enough to get access to what I need to do and when finished, join it back together with duct tape. But you need to use good quality duct tape that sticks like the proverbial to a blanket.

the proper Trim removal tool is best, that way you wont break anything, and its useful for the door trims as well which you WILL go into one day for something and as already mentioned, to flip the carrier you only need access to the bolts, so a simple "slit" in the inner splash lining will be enough.

This has a little info which may be of some use. http://www.discovery2.co.uk/spare_carrier.html

DRAPER 19193 DOOR TRIM PANEL REMOVAL TOOL - eBay, Hand Tools, Garage Equipment Tools, Vehicle Parts Accessories. (end time 27-Jul-10 20:36:00 AEST)

Urban Panzer, what do you exacly mean by 'slit the inner splash lining'?

Thanks for the link, that was one of the first sites I found when looking for a guide.
