You dont need to remove the latch itself, just the plastic surround which should pry out.
The cover itself is fastened to the rear door by use of 20 door plug studs.
Note, RED studs.
Just lever up the cover very gently, using a wide bladed spatula or similar to avoid breaking the cover.
The door plugs studs will break, so you'll need more. I got mine

These are Disco 1 door plugs, for the rear door, which are the same as those in the D2. Dont get D2 plugs, as these are for the other bits of trim. Get the RED ones.
The key is to not damage the cover itself, so care is needed to not bend it too much (get the spatula right next to the studs when you lift it off.
I did mine in a carpark whilst SWMBO went shopping, its that easy.

and as already mentioned, to flip the carrier you only need access to the bolts, so a simple "slit" in the inner splash lining will be enough.
