    The only question left is--

did any of these failed boxes actually get regular schedule servicing (from new!) before failure??

Hi all. Pedro, since I purchased the D2 with about 145,000K's on it, I can only surmise that it was used for towing duties (seller had caravan in yard) and I seriously doubt the auto was serviced regularly.

I kinda blame myself in so far as it should have been one of the first things I did, ie. change out ALL fluids and filters in the vehicle and give it a service, if only for piece of mind, regardless of what the previous owner, dealer or log book says. Maybe that would have made a difference, maybe the ground work had already been laid for future failure. Who knows?

At the end of the day, I have a new/old auto box that should last the life of the vehicle now with regular servicing and Maintenance. Ahh the "M" word for Maintenance. Regular maintenance may not stop breakages etc. during normal use that is but it can sure slow down the incidence of them. Also gives you a chance to catch something that may become a problem down the track.

    Cheers
    Mikey
