    Accessory Socket - Engel Fridge

I need advice as to whether the accessory socket in the rear of my Discovery TD5-S.2 will take the demands of a Engel 40lt. fridge. Does this accessory socket go direct to battery or is their a fuse and/or a cut-out to stop battery going flat.
If not suitable, any suggestions for fitting Engel post-fit socket.
    Cheers

i would recommend wiring the fridge or socket back to the battery both + and - with decent size cable. I doubt your disco would have an auto cutout on the existing outlet, no low voltage cutout on the engel either.

    do you have dual batteries?

My 47L ARB Fridge runs off the rear acc' socket no problems ... it does have (the fridge) an adjustable low voltage cut-out.

My rear acc' socket is still on the std factory wiring, but the battery supply to the fuse box connection that supplies the aux' rear socket has been disconnected and re-connected to the aux' battery (under the bonnet) ... this way it's permanently powered on ... just what you need for a fridge.

The aux' battery is also wired to the tow hitch trailer plug in much heavier cable ... so for extended stays, I have a short lead with a trailer plug one end, and a cig' female socket on the other end which I connect to the 12 pin trailer socket on the car, and to the fridge lead ... minimizes the voltage drop experienced in the std factory wiring to the rear aux' socket as it's now on the tow hitch wiring ... so the fridge gets more volts, and I get more life from the aux' battery running the fridge.

When the car is running, the rear aux' socket voltage drop isn't an issue, and stopping for up to 12hrs is no problem (I've run it 24hrs without problems) ... the fridge only draws around 4-4.5Amps.

The only thing i would add is the cig lighter plug in the rear will not hold the plug properly on a corrugated road, it can dislodge itself leaving everything in the fridge warm.
With my old D2 i ran a specific wire from the 2nd battery & fitted the Engel Screw plug.
You will notice on the lead you have the centre section undoes leaving you with a device you can screw into.
    HTH.
    Cheers.
