    Fuel Gauge and Tyre Pressure

Ive had my D2 TD5 Auto for about 2 months now. It has the standard 95L tank.
When the fuel gauge hits up yellow, it takes about 60-65L it fill up. I stop when the pump stops, but when i drive away the gauge is not full, but 1 bar below. Is this normal? Can i pump it abit more to reach full, if so, how much?
Original tyres i would get about 615kms (mix of highway and city), now with BFG A/T's its about 550Kms. Does that sound right?

Another question on tyre pressures. I recently fitted BFG A/T 265/75R16. When i first checked the tyre pressure they seemed to be around 38-42PSI. I put them 40 all round, then up to 42 all round, but it still looks like they are abit deflated (pushes out the side abit). Is this just a BFG A/T thing as I kind of notice it with other vehicles with the same tyres.

Is 40/42 PSI too much for an unloaded D2??

A lot of questions that I hope can be addressed.

    Thanks in advance

When the pump stops, i used to be able to get at least another 10-15ltrs more into the tank, its just because the diesel foams a lot.

Dont forget you were running 235/70/16 & now you are running a tyre that 1. is 10%bigger in diameter (more effort to move away & more effort to brake) & 2. running a more aggressive tyre pattern. so hence you WILL lose efficiency.

For an unladen D2 i used to run 36 front -38 rear psi, other wise you would just crash "through" the bumps. All BFG's seem to bubble at the bottom, must be a tyre thing.

Is 40/42 PSI too much for an unloaded D2?? I think so.

A lot of questions that I hope can be addressed.

    Hi Silver
With the fuel if you are not about to use it cut it off at the bowser cut off.
If you are ABOUT to do some Ks trickle feed it till its pouring out of the filler.Diesel fuel expands substantialy in hot weather, dont fill to the brim if you are not going to use it up!!!

The two are related. If you ease off the tyre pressures a bit, the fuel guage will rise slightly.

    or not
It's not broken. It's "Carbon Neutral".

My guage does exactly the same, but i normally get about 75l into it. Also did you account for the odo. showing less ks due to the bigger radius wheels?

I find when the yellow light comes on, I can usually squeeze in about 130 litres.

Empty I usually run about 36psi all tyres. If Im after some comfort I might drop to 32F/34R.

When I fill mine up, I stop at the first click of the pump, then carry on "SLOWLY" till I can look down the neck and see the fuel. The gauge then reads about a needles width above the full mark.

Tyre pressures, mmmmmm.....the factory pressures DEF looked to little on the AT's and 18"s, now run 38 F 40 R on the STT's and 16"s

Tyre Pressure, place a piece of copy paper on a smooth road/driveway and drive over it. You should get some sort tyre print on the paper.
If the tyre is too over inflated you will get less of a print of the tyre tread on the edges. Im sure you've seen these images before some where. But its still a good way to check.
Only real way to find out is to use a tyre temperture gauge (or a circuit temp metre). Drive until tyres are up to temp' than take a reading from the tread surface. Half an inch from the outside egde, middle and 1/2 " from inside edge. The readings should all be close.
High in the centre, means, over inflated. Lower in the centre, under inflated. If one edge is higher than others, its a camber problem.
But about your tyres, Ive used them( BFG ) my self, many years ago. In fact about 25 years ago. I think the design is getting a little dated. And yes, they do bag out abit at normal road pressures.
Whats the load index on the tyre ? and are they a LT (light truck) tyre ? I would think they are.
