off set by the better clearance
Hi Guys
Well .... just ruined an original Michelin tyre on Disco EMU with a rather large nail!
May as well replace them all as rego is at the end of the month and the tyres are almost 11 years old.
Is there any benefit (other than clearance) to fitting the next legal size up? (245/75/16) What negatives to a bigger tyre?
Disco EMu is a tourer - so thinking of Goodyear AT/SA or Pirelli Scorpion STR or another Michelin (latitude cross or LTX A/T2)
I no longer have a spare ... so I need to buy this weekend!!!! Please help ????
Thanks
Craig

You can get them plugged. They patch from the inside with either a patch which they put on the inside from the inside, or I think there is a mushroom thing that also patches from the inside but is inserted through the puncture.
That size tyre wont be legal but it will give you more traction.
I'm not sure if the Pirelli STR comes in that size, but I'd definately have a look at the Pirelli ATR. A very good tyre on the road and an all terrain tyre.

Thanks Slunnie ... but the missus drove it around for two days with no air in it what-so-ever, so the side-walls are apparently buggered.
As for the size ... more research needed here.
and was thinkin of the STR only 'cause the Disco is mainly a tourer (95%)with the occasional dirt road and beach work.
Thanks

Changed my stock Michelins for 245/75R16 Goodyear silent armours just two weeks ago.
I'm very impressed with them so far.
Very quiet and stable on the wet black stuff.
Very sure footed and great grip in the rocky and greasy tracks in the mountains.
I found that the steering is much lighter also.
Good value at $279 each fitted and balanced at Beaurepaires.
Now to see how long they last.

How do they manage to do this and not notice?
It must be a genetic thing
Amazing how many women drive with a flat tyre and yet dont seem to notice the total lack of handling of the vehicle...
For a tourer, go 4 bar or 5 bar ATZs....
Very strong tyre....
And wouldnt take much to get approval for a 245-75-16 to be legal.
(It actually puts the speedo about right)
Personally I would go to 255/70/16 if going to a bigger tyre.
Bigger tyres will take a bit of power from the car, so if your Disco doesn't have a power upgrade and you tow (and I know you do from your sig on MySwag) you will struggle on hills and your fuel economy will go up.

I went the Michelin Latitude Cross to replace the factory rubber on mine and went up to a 245/75/16, so far so good, tyre is quieter on tarmac and the slightly longer footprint a bonus in sand
