    TD5

Had my 03/TD5 for a bit over a week now, having previously owned a 300tdi for over 10 yrs, i can say there like chalk and cheese!!!! I cant believe how different they are to drive, power etc etc, (I could go on & on) I have just purchased an Airtec snorkel(had one on the old girl) which I hope to get on next weekend, got a full filter kit for her aswell,(fuel,oilx2,air )from All 4x4,$75 which i thought was ok??? do them all next weekend too, the only thing i.ve noticed underneath is an oil leak from the left hand front of engine, blows back over diff etc,it is engine oil being black, there are sum hoses up in that area and i thought was mabey outa the ACE,but not being black, does the eng oil cooler pipes run down this side of the engine???I remember the old 300 pipes leaked and i had them renewed, any ideas??? Happy days Ross

Could possibly coming from 1 of the oil filters and maybe running down the side of the engine..Its common to get a leak from the filter behind the turbo, or even the centrifigal filter if the housing bolts have worn thru.

The only other thing is the sump gasket, but sure you would see that 1.

Glad you are enjoying the D2..

    Cheers Ean

just a hint with the oil filters i would personaly stick with the land rover centrifuge filter as many aftermarket ones have been known to fail or not work properly

    Hi Ross.

Check the cam plug at the front of the head ... prone to leaking/weaping ... fan blows it backwards and down the front of the motor ... same deal with a leaking rocker cover gasket.

Gasket on the turbo drain/return hose is another one to check.

... it's a Land Rover thing ! Search engine here is your best bet to get a handle on ALL of the possibilities, and The Good Oil section of the forum.

    Welcome to the D2 club.

Oil is now weeping around the oil hoses on my turbo. From your comments I presume there is a gasket then to couple the hoses to the turbo that you have experienced failure. I presume then that you order them from LR? Just asking as I like to have the required fix prior to pulling things apart and avoid being immobilise for weeks waiting for parts!

    Thanks

    Hi John.

When I bought my D2a, it had an oil leak & failing front tailshaft. I had the dealer repair them before the purchase. He said there was a failed turbo oil drain hose gasket that was replace. He said it was a $2 part. If it's only gasket paper, you could probably make one yourself. That part of the system shouldn't be under pressure ... it's a drain.

Looking at Microcat, that gasket is part no. PNT100030 and is at the oil drain hose connection on the underside of the turbo.

There are 2x washers (copper?) on the oil supply line - p.n. ADU6847L connected to the top of the turbo ... this is a pressure fed supply ... I think it's a banjo bolt assy like a fuel line connection.

These appear to be the only gaskets/seals on the turbo oil supply.

    Hope that helps.

The gasket is made of metal. Most likely aluminium. The same gasket is utilised on the rotor filter return pipe also. I have to take off the oil return line from the turbo every time i change the full flow filter because of lack of clearance. Anyone else in the same boat?????

Rob, what brand oil filters are you using ?

The Mahle ones are a bit shorter (1/2") and on my Td5 give enough cleance to get the filter in & out without removing the hose.

My last one was a Cooper, and I don't recall it being a hassle to get in, but I changed it last weekend and it was a bitch to get out as it was hard on the hose!

Kev, I'm using Coopers full flow filter and a Bearmach rotor filter. Always have had clearance issues regardless of brand. Never tried mahle, where do you get them?
