Check exactly what oil grade was used.
If he has used the heavier stuff they tip in Jap 4x4s it wont make noise as its too heavy.

I just got my Disco back yesterday after some repairs during which the Land Rover mechanic changed the engine oil and filter for me. When I shut the engine down now I no longer hear the familiar sound of the centrifugal oil filter winding down. I have even stuck my head under the bonnet but can't hear it any more.
Is it possible to stuff this job up and not have the filter spin? Can anyone else hear the filter spinning or have I just had extremely noisy filters up until now?

How long is it supposed to spin for???
Another possible cause is a tight filter cartridge. I bought a couple a while back that were tight on the spindle, and would not spin unless I "reamed" the holes in the centre at each end slightly.
Take the cover off your filter and see if it spins freely - you should be able to turn it freely with your fingers.
If it is tight on the spindle, you will have a hell of a job getting it out.

All the tight filters seem to be aftermarket versions in my experience.

I did my 3rd oil & filters on the weekend, and for the first time I can hear the cent' filter spinning down after I stop the engine.
Aftermarket filter, same as last 2x ... 5w/40 oil. All spun freely when checked by hand at time of installation.
A new sound to get familiar with !

They were an aftermarket unit. I bought a couple of them from the place I usually get my LR bits from in Perth, and he had run out of the ones that he normally supplies. When I rang him and asked about the problem with the tight fit on the spindle, he told me that he had come across this before with some brands of filter cartridges, and told me how to overcome it using a small screwdriver.
I'm still running one of these at the moment, with no problems once I'd loosened it up a bit.

I had a lot of trouble with a tight c/filter i could not get out. Finely got it out with two pieces of fine wire coat hanger with small hooks bent on the end.
