Your not driving it properly, in mud TC is brilliant, sand not so much because momentum is the key, but still very good.
If your driving in mud or sand with your foot buried to the floor and you expect the TC to work, then it won't happen, as the TC don't work on a D2 over a certain RPM, as ozscott as stated, use the throttle properly and it works brilliantly.
I'd be looking for what the problem is, it is more than likely a wheel sensor problem, get it checked for faults, then go from there, in the meantime I'd take some contact cleaner and clean all the sensor plugs with it, then look at the sensor in the hub and check it's seated properly, take it out have a look for damage or dirt and grit, clean it with a clean rag and smear some grease on it and reinstall them.
Check your brake pads aren't low, the 3 amigoes can appear when they are low.
