D2 Door issue (possible central locking fault?)
G'day fellas,
I've had this weird problem with the doors on my '99 Disco 2 TD5 since I bought it, I'll try my best to explain it here.
When I unlock it by hitting the unlock button on the remote the drivers door and the LHR door unlock (the tailgate also unlocks), the LHF and RHR doors however remain LOCKED.
If I hit the unlock button on the dash the LHF & RHR doors still will not unlock. To unlock them I have to pull on the interior door handle.
Now if I have unlocked the problem doors by pulling on the interior handle, once I get under way and the anti car-jacking system kicks in (I.E: The doors all lock at ~5km/h) the problem doors DO NOT LOCK, they remain unlocked.
When I lock the vehicle using the remote, the problem doors (if unlocked) will lock normally.
Also, my tailgate has started to play up. Sometimes it refuses to open and I can feel that the handle is pulled in before I pull on it.
If it has done this, after a while when I'm driving I might hear a bang come from the rear door.
When I check it the handle has returned to its normal position and I can once again open the door.
But there is no guarantee that if I open and close it that it will open again and the whole process starts over.
The "bang" noise may also occur when I unlock the vehicle or when the doors unlock themselves when the vehicle is turned off.
Last time I used the tailgate (and it was working) when I went to close it, the TG refused to close and was bouncing off the latch like the alingment was out.
Eventually it closed but when I moved off and the doors locked I heard the door pop-open. I got out and checked it and it was open but still caught on the latch, I pushed it closed and it was fine.
When I got home the TG wouldn't open again and I had to unload the vehicle from the back doors with the seats folded down.
I haven't checked it since to see if it wants to open again.
Any Ideas what's going on here?

Doors
Hey Dude
Sounds like the door latches are stuffed and need to be replaced or repaired. The door latch is the motor which locks and unlocks. Can be expensive. ($200 each) Check on the forum for similiar problems. I have the issue with the Front Left.
I'm currently purchasing the parts from overseas. (BPUTAH - google this).
Also check ebay for parts.
If you don't already have it get a copy of the workshop manual and RAVE CD. All can be download from this site or the internet. Some are free some not. Rave will give you the part numbers. By the way BPUTAH is a good site for looking at parts.
Regards
Andrew
