    TD5 Head gasket replacement @140km's

    Hey guys

    Just a quick question
Ive heard on the grapevine that after 140,000kms you should look at getting your TD5 head gasket replaced regardless if there are problems or not.

Is this good advice or nonsense.
The disco that I have has a very good service history from the previous owner and still gets looked after by me.

    Cheers

I was planning on doing mine at the 200K interval.

Headgaskets as a rule dont last forever but typically something else will do something that will require the removal of the head before the headgasket fails. As you generally cant reuse head gaskets you generally wind up fitting a new head gasket before you "wear out" the old one.

    Head Gasket

    NLO

Sounds like horse poo to me. If it's not leaking it's not in need of repair. (even if it's leaking it's most likely not in need of repair).

If you only bought it keep a eye on the motor for leaks (external ones and internal).

External leaks will be easy to spot but some car dealers have a few tricks up the sleeves to postpone the leaks and likewise for the internal leaks.

If it's internal you'll notice the car heating/overheating as the water is entering the engine to have a party with the oil.

Also if you are considering replacing the head gasket the dealers starting price is around $4k. Not worth it.

    Regards
    Andrew
