I'd be happy with a size in the ballpark of my original tyres. 255/65/16. I'm thinking BFG A/T although with a fatter profile, why you want to go so big?

Robbo.
I've read heaps of posts about being able to fit 265/75/16 tyres on the D2 without a lift but the trouble is it increases the diametre of the tyre beyond what is legal. I spent a bit of time with a mate who owns a tyre shop today and and from what we can see you can increase the diametre of the tyre by up to 50mm from standard and remain legal. 235/70/16 are 740mm. 265/75/16 are 810mm an increase of 70mm so illegal. 275/70/16 are 790mm so 50mm increase and still legal. Has any body fitted these to their D2 and have they had any problems with rubbing etc.

I'm looking at diametre rather than width. If I can get the 275's under there I will basically get an extra inch of clearance.
i think you may find the rule is 15mm untill the vsi rule is brought in, so 245/70 is about your max legally.
cheers

One thing to remember with bigger diameter tyres is that your TC won't lock up until a higher road speed ... your speedo might say 80kmhr, but with a 265/75 you'll be doing as good as 90kmhr.
I went from 255/65 up to 255/70. That's about 4%. To get TC lockup up in an 80 zone, I have to hit at least 85 (via GPS) before the TC locks up, then back off to 75 to stay under 80. 265/75 will make this even worse. If you do lots of open road driving it should be OK, but around town your fuel economy will suffer.
