If you want to replace the head unit and keep the steering wheel audio controls search ebay for the following - pac-swi adaptor. It is a small box that allows certain brands of head unit to understand the steering wheel controls. Some new alpine head units state compatibility with these adapters on their specs sheet. about $100.

i am having this very issue at the moment.. Do you have any tips on how to identify the original trigger wire for the AMP?
i wired up a Sony but kept the original plugs from the old radio spliced in. when i connect the old radio i have sound.. when i connect the new one there is no sound. everything else works fine but no sound
