Mine drained too.
I pulled it apart and replaced all the seals (o-rings). It's now lying in the factory position and hasn't leaked a drop.
Perhaps it is Land Rover's way of telling you that your jack needs a rebuild!

Never had a problem with the jack in my 99 D2, used it many times. I know if they are lying with the breather cap (small round rubber cap on side) facing anyway but up they will leak. Just make sure the cap is on top when it’s laid down and you shouldn’t have a problem – unless the cylinder seals are buggered which is not that common.
If it has leaked, as Pedro says, refill via the breather.
