    Mine drained too.
I pulled it apart and replaced all the seals (o-rings). It's now lying in the factory position and hasn't leaked a drop.

Perhaps it is Land Rover's way of telling you that your jack needs a rebuild!

Just did my front prop shaft today and did the hood lining and head gasket earlier in the year ... I'm way ahead of you!
You'd better pull your finger out!

    breather face down?

Never had a problem with the jack in my 99 D2, used it many times. I know if they are lying with the breather cap (small round rubber cap on side) facing anyway but up they will leak. Just make sure the cap is on top when it’s laid down and you shouldn’t have a problem – unless the cylinder seals are buggered which is not that common.

If it has leaked, as Pedro says, refill via the breather.

I came across this thread looking for how to change the seals. If you can tell me how or point me to a place where I can find out. Please do

    Happy days.

There's details of the repair in the 'Files' section (button just above your user name on the RH side under the banner ads).

Keep the lock nuts and use them on your spare. Helps prevent buggers half inching your spare.
