Truetrac for the front

Yeah - I'm another with ARB's front and rear on my Disco1, and only standard axles. Had them fitted new when I bought the car 15 years ago and never a drama with the LR axles. It's been all over: sand, rocks, mud. I am not a hard/gung-ho driver though, and I don't town anything off road.

For my 130 I am building up I went for TT's front and rear, and of course no traction control on a 130. I chose them for simplicity, they're always on, gentler on the axles, and much cheaper than ARB's. If I lift a wheel, I will just have to feather the brakes...

I do some hard stuff and would hate to damage an axle. It looks like the TT is the safer option.

I have finally installed my Lucky8 truetrac to front of the D2.
The only small problem I had was, I couldn't figure out how to disconnect the speed sensors in the hubs. There seems no way to disconnect them, other than cutting the cable.
Anyway, I have absolutely no idea how to check if the TT is working properly or not.
The handling and steering on road seems fine though.

I put TTs in the front & rear about 5 weeks ago but I have not had a chance to use them in anger yet because of the little bit of the wet weather we have had in SE Queensland lately. Only on road difference is a stronger tendency for the steering to self centre which I got used to in a few days. Seems normal now.

I have the same slight self-centring thing, so maybe it works okay after all.:)
Still haven't thought of a way to prove it yet though.
I suppose I need to find my favorite muddy hill.

I have recently had a TT put in the front of my D1. I see others have commented on the increased self centering pull. Im finding it a bit disconcerting at times. Wondering if it will reduce over time, or if a different oil might help? It is particularly annoying around town, just mildy annoying at highway speeds, no problem at all off road.

How have others found it over time?

I think it stays about the same but you get used to it. I also sense a small tendency to want to continue straight ahead when you first turn into a curve on my Quaife which seems identical to a TT.
I just finished rebuilding and reinstalling a Quaife diff that I bought from a member long ago.
I can confirm that the installation is straightforward and the manual instructions for setting the carrier preload are fine. I didn't measure my backlash before dismantling but set it towards the higher end of the tolerance on the basis it probably was higher in the past. The diff is fine and not noisy at all. Backlash/preload is set by setting the clearance on teh LH carrier to zero then winding up the RH carrier to get the desired backlash/preoad on a dial gauge
I bought a diff gasket and when I went to fit it, it didn't bloody fit. Too small. This gives me the irrits about cheap parts, so I just silasticed the surface.
BTW it is probably worth buying a new yoke as they are only $28 and the new sealing surface cuts the probability of the seal leaking on grooves.

By far the most complex job is fitting new pinion bearings as they need shimming to a set (high) preload , so you need a shim pack and spring balance.

Hi, What was the serial number for the front TT and where did you get it from?

I have a front TT in the D1 and I want to do the same when I upgrade to a D2.

I do not notice the TT during normal driving but on sand with the centre dif lock on it is like a front wheel drive car.

With twin TTs you should be able to turn of TC on sand and in snow which is a benefit.
