    Talking Hilux diff conversion

So my new project on my D2 is to custom build hilux diffs under my disco , i am going to run the 4.7 or 4.5 ratio diffs with custom chrome molly axels and ARB lockers ,alot of people have questioned me in my decision as i was running prity much the strongest rover set up you can get on the market which is now for sale Message - AULRO Classifieds
but with the hilux upgrade and after market C/W pinion and axels i will be tripling the strenght factor this all comes down to the want and need to run 37'sx14.16 maxis trepador stickys, hopefully it all goes well the guys from OUTCAST OFFROAD will be putting there touch onto them to make them even stronger with complete diff lamination will be done on both diffs

If any one has done this to a D2 your opion will be greatly appreciated
    cheers Kelvin

Sounds Exciting but also sounds like it will be a pain to engineer. Are you replacing the D2 housings with Toy units or doing a Toy diff and axles conversion in the standard D2 housings?

Totally replacing the housings will mean you will lose abs, is it legal to remove abs on a car that came with it from factory?

Hendrik i drive a car with a 5"lift 35's in QLD ( legal or ilegal its upto you to decide)

if you replace the entire housing you can replace the abs its just a little bit more work the reluctor gears to suit the toyo/disco2 abs system are made in the USA but i have decided to go this way >>>>the housing will stay the same but be fully laminated bolts holding the hubs will be upgraded axels are been custom made by Keith from rover tracks and with the help from the guys from OUTCAST OFFROAD diff conversion and tailshaft conversion should be straight forward

    That sounds very cool!

Have you looked at fitting front LC80/100 diff and matching Hilux type rear centres into the D2 housings and in the ARB airlockers you can swap the sides to Rover sides and run Ashcroft axles + CV's. Ashcroft CV's are made by the same mob that makes Longfields. Also means that you can replace broken bits with off the shelf bits and it doesn't interfere with your electronics.

Not many have done full axle conversions - all OS that I know of, and I don't know of any that are Toyota centre converted.
    Cheers

Yep, you will need to use the Rover side gears instead of the Toyota ones.

As George says. There is also a lot of tech on Outerlimits4x4 re this and someone in melbourne has a template plate for redrilling the axle housing to suit. I thinks its HSVRangie.

Excellent i like what i am hearing! But wouldnt the uprgaded drivetrain in you car already handle the 37s with just a simple CWP swap to a 4.5 or something? Its all the good gear already so it should stand up to it just fine. I have contemplated GU/GQ patrol housings for a long time but after the money was laid out for the ashcroft/ARB option im praying that they will cope in the future.

If this the direction its heading im looking forward to it being a ute!

In terms of weight, my 33's and 34/35" Simex's are not that much different. My 37" Maxxis Creepys are so much heavier its not funny and I would assume the bias Treps are similar in weight.

yeah as Simon says the treps and creepys or any other tyre 37 and above in bias ply are heavy real heavy and even withmy aftermarket setup it is not ideal and if you did break it expensive if i brake a toyo center couple hundred and its fixed
it will never be turned into a ute ,whta the plan is is a a dual cab truggy and to be the first D2TD5 in tuff trucks 2012
