Thread: D2 Bilstein Questions

OK,
Getting conflicting stories re: SLS vs non-SLS Bilstein requirements. Brisbane and Sydney Bilstein distributors are adamant that the BE5 6046, 6047's are OK for SLS D2(with no extra lift). Also, found an entry in Arnotts catalog listing the those same shocks for SLS D2's.
Cannot find extended or closed lengths for these shocks. However, the "extended" BE5B994 and BE5B995 are 618 and 388, 615 and 390.5mm opened/closed respectively. I would be keen to pull one of my factory shocks off my SLS D2 and measure-up if someone can find the specs on the 6046/6047 shocks.
BTW: Did anyone get an eshock shipping quote?

Nope, eshocks stopped talking to me when I mentioned 994's & 995's. Old posts refer to between US$90 to Us$150. Frustratingly simple Q really. Do 6047's top out in SLS extended height mode. As someone famous is fond of saying--"how hard can it be". BTW maybe the $ will go past the US$.

Found this on a UK Landrover forum:

Bilstein "OEM" 6100 series (BE5-6047-H0) is:
Extended length 25.82"
Collapsed length 15.79"

which equates to 656 mm extended and 401 mm closed.So, for the rear 6047 it is ~10 mm too long on max. compression but OK on extension of the air bag.
(Just lift the bump stop?, don't worry - it never compresses that much?)
Must measure the factory one in the flesh and see.

Sat arvo update:
Stock rear SLS shocks extended 570 mm, closed 360 mm. I assume one measures between centres of the eyes, so BE5 6047's will extend far enough, but neither 6047 or BE5B 995's will close enough. This now makes no sense at all. My specs are either wrong, I'm measuring incorrectly or the closed dimension of the factory shock is never reached. Probably should deflate bag to the bump stop and measure this as the "closed" dimension.

So it looks like we are back to square one on this particular cul-de-sac, I would have thought with more cars being made with air springs we would have seen more options available for the D2 but it appears our options are shrinking and it is Land Rover genuine or nothing.

I keep seeing references to OME on these threads as well as OEM, I assume OME refers to Old Man Emu and OEM to genuine spec or have I got that backside about.

Actually Simon it might not be such a bad idea to go straight to the source in Tchermany as everyone associated with Bilstein I speak to in this country either crosses themselves and changes the subject or advises me to devolve to coils

Not quite, it may be the case that the OEM shocks never close down to 360 mm. The bump stops meet beforehand and the BE5 6047 Bilsteins will be fine. This really needs a test on an articulation ramp or on a really gnarly driveway.
I also assume the fronts are a no-brainer - there should be no issues at all - right chaps?

Not sure, an earlier poster said MRAutomotive recommend BE5B 994s for the front for non lift SLS. & they are a v. respected LR guru in SEQld but I wouldn't think the front comes up much if at all in sls extd. hgt mode so US cheapie std. 6046 may be ok
