    Right, here's an update.
As a couple of posts, and a very helpful phone call off "handbrake hates camping" pointed to the transmission loom, I decided to investigate. Noticed that the harness into the solenoid switch was fairly loose (clip missing?) and resting on the transfer case. No obvious signs of rubbing or chafing , but as a trial, I wrapped it in duct tape, and zip tied it up off the case.
Since then, no trouble at all!!! assume that where it was resting on the T/case I was getting a short?
Anyway, just in case the harness is on it's way out, my mate in the UK, has got me a low mileage one from a breakers, all in with postage $100!
    Thank all for the help.

Hello, I have had the same problem. It occurs if the car is rolling back slightly when the car is placed into drive.
The S & M flashing lights can be reset by this sequence.
Turn the ignition on(not starting), open drivers door, turn ignition off, close drivers door.
Do this sequence 5 times, and the lights should be reset and limp home mode turned off.

This has happened twice to me, and reset correctly each time by the above procedure.
