    Another leaky fuel cooler.

    G'day all,

To cut a long story short, was on holidays last weekend and when I arrived at the hotel lobby to check in I noticed coolant dripping out just behind the drivers front wheel...bit of research (thanks to this awesome forum) found it to be fuel cooler leaking at the bottom of the front cap, not too hard of a fix, couple of o-rings and a few hours, job done....not quite! Upon removing the hose off the front cap, discovered the nozzle the hose came off was completely blocked with a hard brown mud. Removed coolant bottle and yep it too had the dreaded scanky OAT coolant mud settled in the bottom of it. At this point I stopped taking hoses off, not sure whether to take the car into a radiator shop and get them to pull the cooling system down and back flush, clean etc etc or continue to pull the system apart myself and get dis-heartened as I discover more of this nasty stuff throughout the engine.

Couple of points I thought I might add.
    - 191 000 kms on clock (possibly never had a coolant change?)
    - Car has not been over heating or showing any signs of getting hot.
    - Also upon limping the car home from holidays noticed mist coming through the aircon vent for about 3 mins then aircon struggled to cool cabin down, even on the coldest setting. Quite sure this is not related to the coolant problem, possibly just the trip from hell! Gottta love Land Rovers

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

P.s. Just to add a bit of light on the dark weekend, my crazy wife thought she'd put her 2 cents worth in after all this un-folded by saying. (Why don't you get on your stupid web site and ask your fellow Landrovians for help!) with a sly smirk on her face I might add. I had a silent chuckle to myself, it was that or cry.

This happened to mine too,as it has with many others! But i went down a different path,i removed the the water cooled unit (no more leaks!)and replaced it an air cooled unit, auto trans cooler type, beautiful!!!! as far as the gunk in the system i would be getting it flushed like you suggested, mine has over 250,000 k on her and it had absolutly none in it ,regular maintianence is the key!! happy days Ross
