TD5 oil.....don't hate me for asking

I've searched, and found a myriad of threads on the best oils etc. I however have a specific question.

I have a 200L drum of Gulf Western 15/40 premium engine oil. To the best of my knowledge, it is NOT a synthetic oil.

Can I run this in the TD5? Seems a shame to waste it. I used to use it in my old diesel 40 series...but I'm unsure of whether it will be suitable for the TD5.

not that I take any notice,,
If i recall correctly a TD5 requires 5w(or10w?) weight oil,,
and be partly or wholly synthetic??
    whatever,
a quick look in The Good Oil revealed this,,

For me, the dealer used Mobil 1 0-40, I use Mobil 1 5-50.

    This is for the D2

sell the gulf drum in markets section here to a tdi owner and stick to penrite 5 diesel oil or mobil 1 which is good in the td5.
do believe it will need some loving in your hands so correct oil at a minimum should be used.

    Is it a a CI-4/CI-4+, ACEA E4/E7 oil ?

If so, and you won't be starting the engine in frosty/alpine areas I'd use it, it'll be a stronger oil than M1 for 10,000km OCI's.

Yeah mate, sell it to someone who can use it. Do not put it in the TD5. Use a 5W30, 5W40 oil such as Castrol Edge or Valvoline Synpower.

    Just to confuse you,
I have been using Caltex Delo 400 15w/40 oil in my TD5 for the last 130,000kms and no oil issue's so far..I am in the tropics tho, but have taken the car south a few times.

    Cheers Ean
