    Cool td5 abs probs

    hi there all
td5 abs probs seem to go on and on.
dealer diagnosed shuttle valve and one rear sensor need replacing.
I bought land-rover genuine parts from 4x4 in Melbourne much cheaper than the land rover dealer could supply at Port macquarie.
dealer charges $110 ph inc gst. charged for 3 hours install work.
Told when it came to pay the bill, that the 3 amegios lights still come on.
They said that they ran out of time and gave the car back to me with the same faults.
They are now sending diagnosis to land rover Australia in Sydney for evaluation?
So parts $350 + labour $330=$680 and still with same faults.
have others had the same run around with the Dealers?
Rego is due next month and it has to be fixed or it wont pass Rego test and be given a fail!

dirty tone rings, bad harness connection or sensors not positioned properly would be the opening moves.

    Hi Peter.
Have you driven the vehicle since the work was done???
I wiped a 3 Amigoes problem from a members ECU and it was still there.Once he drove the vehicle and re-started the 3 amigoes went to wherever they hide until next time.
    GOODLUCK

Grab the Rave CD, it covers it

basically the tone rings are a stepped rings that the sensor reads to tell the computer the wheels rotational speed

the harness is all of the wiring between the pump, ECU and the sensors in the hubs

the sensors are part of the hub assemblies, contaminating them with a magnetic residue or mis-positioning them will cause havoh

    Thumbs down Dealer shoddy work

    well

I had a look under the car this weekend to see what I had been charged $330 labour on Wednesday.
I had the shock of my life, yes really.
I had supplied a new genuine land-rover part rear r/h abs sensor, the very latest one with an extra long lead to run the length of the car and be connected into the ECU directly. About 2 metres of cable BTW.
The dealer had installed the sensor in the hub.
The long cable had been cut short to about 400mm and the original connector waterproof plug had also been cut off. Criky
The two wires of both had just been twisted together and a piece of insulation tape loosely wrapped around the joint! Criky OMG
See the pics uploaded of an amateurish job done my a respected main dealer in Port Maquarie.
I was furious to say the least.
No wonder the 3 lights are still coming on.
If even one tiny wire from the multi wire cable has entangled in the other wire , it would cause a short of great magnitude!
A 10 year old could have done a job like that. Cut the wires and existing connection joints off and joined up with a bit of sticky tape.
Monday morning is going to be a memorable moment for the principal of JP motors in Port.
I have documented the event with pictures and am considering contacting the NRMA legal department for help.
Maybe even informing Land rover Australia in Sydney of the dealers lack of attention to well documented repair procedures.
I personally think that JP motors of Port should loose there dealership for Land-rover period.
    shoddy work and no supervision.
    End of my rant
pic 1 (305) cut cables joined with tape.
pic 2 (307) cable cut and route next to fuel filter.
pic 3 (308) close-up of the joint in question.
pic 4 (310) showing original left hand side joint. Right hand side now cut off completely and just the cable joined to one another.

That's pretty poor work, I'd be asking why it wasn't done properly, joining the wires is not a bad thing, but doing a shoddy job like they have done, is.

Sometimes the problem can be quite esoteric.

I have been tracking down abs errors for the past couple of years. The errors have been occurring intermittently which doesn't help. The error codes were often contradictory but that was because there were a number of issues to be resolved, which when that was accepted by the insurer they could be addressed and eliminated.

So far new ECU and replaced shuttle valve block. Previously the modulator was replaced. Luckily all covered by the extended warranty.

Seems to be behaving itself for the past few weeks.

Even I wouldn't leave a job looking like that and I don't know what I'm doing most of the time.

I feel for you. Nothing worse than taking it to the experts & they do a backyard job of not fixing it.

Just got a Hawkeye and spent some time sorting out the famous three amigis. Kept comming back whenever ABS or TC needed to work. Easy one this time, relay for pump not working so put in a $17 replacement relay. ABS tested on grass and works again. 2005 110 Extreme.
