The engine has more than enough power to cruise along at 100k's. 320nm not enough for you at that reve range?
Supercharging it won't necessarily make it more economical. It'll give you more power, absolutely, but that won't really translate to increased fuel gains.
Agreed Terry. Although, I must add that when talking about economy on these V8's, it's relative. We're talking about a 2.5 tonne car here, so they are reasonably economical. My 4cyl car does about the same k's around town as the Disco. The 4cyl is half the weight with the Disco taking 20ltrs more fuel at pump from empty...
Mind you, the 4cyl will do 700+k's on the highway compared to close to 600 in the Disco but that's because the Disco is shaped like a brick, a fat brick.
So, relatively speaking, they aren't that uneconomical for a big V8. Of course if we're comparing it to a diesel, of course they aren't economical. But we've got to compare apples with apples - For instance, the D2's would receive the same sort of economy as, say a Territory, or an Adventra...
