    What, not hi-clones....?!?!?

D2 V8's aren't economical and never will be but we all should have known that before we bought them so its just case of accepting the facts as they are and just move on and enjoy the vehicle for what it is.

    cheers,
    Terry
    I'll second that emotion!

The engine has more than enough power to cruise along at 100k's. 320nm not enough for you at that reve range?
Supercharging it won't necessarily make it more economical. It'll give you more power, absolutely, but that won't really translate to increased fuel gains.

Often the person who benefits the most from a LPG installation is the next buyer of the vehicle who doesn't pay that much more for the car then for one without LPG fitted.

Agreed Terry. Although, I must add that when talking about economy on these V8's, it's relative. We're talking about a 2.5 tonne car here, so they are reasonably economical. My 4cyl car does about the same k's around town as the Disco. The 4cyl is half the weight with the Disco taking 20ltrs more fuel at pump from empty...
Mind you, the 4cyl will do 700+k's on the highway compared to close to 600 in the Disco but that's because the Disco is shaped like a brick, a fat brick.

So, relatively speaking, they aren't that uneconomical for a big V8. Of course if we're comparing it to a diesel, of course they aren't economical. But we've got to compare apples with apples - For instance, the D2's would receive the same sort of economy as, say a Territory, or an Adventra... I know what I'd prefer to be driving.

The V8 is as economical as it can be considering as said it lugs around 2.5 ton of steel. I'm sure that the 4cyl in the wifes xtrail would be less economical, it's all relative to the task.

But (if you can remember as it was 2 years ago) how fast were you going to get your 510km and how big is your tank?

i have noticed that D1 is quoted here as giving less fuel per tank, my question is the tank the same size to compare between the D1 and D2?

The tanks in both my D1 V8 and D2 V8 are I believe the same size. Our last trip in the D2 was to Albury a couple of weeks ago with the wife driving, and she got well over 600K's out of it. I followed her in the Puma, and she beat me on consumption,, and she even buggerised around overtaking me, dropping back, overtaking me again, and again,, and again,

After reading through this thread im starting to believe i have a problem, I have a 99 D2 V8, with xrox front bar and full roof rack, 265/75/16s. Around town im getting 410kms out of a 85L tank on 98 BP and on the long haul with two extra people a loaded car and full rack im getting 450 just scraping into geraldton to fill up. Do i have something to worry about ?

Assuming you havent corrected your speedo, 410 at 85ltr around town is 20.7/100km your speedo is 9.3% slow which equates to 18.8ltr/100km. Sounds about right I think.

    and as for
    "more power better fuel economy"

didn't I just read about a members 5.2 rebuild now doing extraordinary fuel figures??

as with both the 3.5 and 4L's the faster you go the livelier they perform
