Do i have something to worry about ?

Roof racks aren't real good for economy either.

Dad had a V8, got best economy between 80-90km/h.
Probably got around the 500kms mark, and he drives like a demon.
Worst we got was 25, towing the boat.
Me? Ill stick to my Td5 getting consistently over 800kms

Drove a TD5 once ...couldn't believe how slow it was, nor how much it vibrated. ...Not calling you a big girl Disco Muppet even though you seam pretty fond of your TD5, but I wasn't sure after driving one if it was primarily created as a basic mode of transportation for people who couldn't afford a V8 or as a marital aid ...

    HAHAHAHA!
I think i just woke my parents up over that one!
    I got a Td5 for several reasons.
    1. P plater, can't drive V8.
    2. What i'd save in purchase price, i'd quickly make up for in fuel costs
    3. prefer diesel for offroading.
    4. (and this is just being picky) The "Td5" badge on the back looks better
Maybe you were just used to the foot down-ness of the V8s, mum nearly burned the auto box out after hopping in the disco from her subaru
I've worked out exactly how to get the Td5 purring along very nicely, and apparently the 0-60 time of the V8 is only a second faster.

hmm well the V8 is better off road,,
more power strokes per cycle = better control just off idle.(which is also sort of why the auto is also better)
and only a second faster is the difference between first and last,,

and the only thing wrong with the D2 V8 badge,,
is that it hasnt got 5.0 next to it

    Hi Pete,

Depending on a couple of things coming together this week mine might say 4.6 pretty soon. ...

I was going to replace the D2a with another D3 but decided I liked driving the old girl way to much, so have spent a couple of dollars on getting it back in shape and and a part of that is I might have found a freshly rebuilt 4.6 for the right money.

Just another reason for owning a V8, one can upgrade to a even bigger More petrol hungry V8 for half the price of rebuilding a sooky weak kneed TD5. ...

and if you put a 4.6 in your disco which a lot of people have the td5 is around 7 seconds slower.

Hey, you were the ones mocking Td5s for being slow!
And you're right about the trip being the important bit.
It just helps if the trip isn't from petrol station to petrol station
