    Fuel Consumption

    I have a 2000 D2 auto - highway running at 110 kmh - average 13 l/100 km, towing boat & trailer ( 2.3 tonne) at highway speed - 18 l/100 km.
Basing your consumption on approximate usage by fuel gauge position will give a totally erroneous (generally optimistic) figure.
Best way is to reset trip meter each time you refuel, record total litres & calculate consumption accurately.
Doing this on a regular basis also assists in determining how your engine is performing.

4kpl(gas) towing the van and 5 when not, it did eat a valve spring not so long back though,,

No it doesn't! The procedure I described is very accurate on my vehicle.

Best way is to reset trip meter each time you refuel, record total litres & calculate consumption accurately.
That is the exact procedure I used to workout my fuel gauge method, AND verify it's accuracy.

Try it - you'll like it.

rough figures coming back from Sydney today and yesterday
1st few hundred ks - 14.9l/100km (lots of town mucking about)
    next leg - 13.9l/100km, mostly freeway 110kph
2001 V8, standard rims and tyres, no lift. Also first leg was on regluar unleaded (grabbed wrong pump) second leg was on premium, if I do it again, it'll be on the good juice (98ron Vortexx!) , couldn't find a normal premium pump lol

So you made it home ok then?

Any issues along the way? Apart from pretty good economy. Also try a few different premiums, personally I've found shell to be best then BP and avoid Caltex at any cost.

Tried E85 a while ago, zero ping with the octane but not great economy and smelt funky?

sure it was teh car smelt funny? lol
I got home real good, even the cruise works. HEat works, Aircon works, light are great (versus my 96 el ford that is). And the times that I didn't disengage the cruise quick enough up hills (I usually do that to ease its going rather than have it floggin itself) it charged up and nearly leapt over the top lol
I notice she runs at higher revs than my old ford (bigger arse to move along I guess)
Sleeping across the back seat is not real comfy for 5'11 though (ended up opening the back passenger door for my feet to hang out, glad I brought my -10degC rated sleeping bag!) Theres a whirr sound on startup and again winding down I guess after switch off but thats all probably just normal sounds, its got more gadgets than my old 95 mdl.
Heres the funny thing though.. the car yards dodgyness in dealings has cost it somewhat; finance won't settle the funds until vehicle is reg'd in my name.. I said to the dealer' well if you've sold me the vehicle in road worthy condition AS WE AGREED' yoou've got nothing to worry about then do you? ' lol but I'm pretty sure I'll have to replace windscreen (two chips in it, unsure if the patchup jobs are sufficicent), seat belt floor part drivers side is sticky to disengage, handbrake feels very weak or over used (maybe adjustment if I am lucky) and un sure if the foot brake feels soft or if its just much lighter to use than my current car) and thats only what I can see, . I'm sure most other things are fine going by the depth of your inspection but our road worthy people can be finicky. So I could keep the car yard waiting weeks, or if something drastically expensive is wrong I may ring em up and say sorry, deals off, you didnt provide road worthy car, come and get it *snort*

I have been suspecting high fuel consumption on my new 1999 D2 V8 and when I filled up yesterday after 288km I got 70 liters in the tank. That equals to a whooping 24L/100km! I have been going mostly around town and I did have a sticky brake caliper sliding pins on the RHS rear wheel. When I drove the car from Gold Coast to central Queensland last month I did get 13L/100km.
