    Spark plug recommendations

Hi all, I'm currently running the NGK iridium plugs in my 2000 disco 4L V8 & am considering changing them as im not sure how long they've been in there. What do you guys recommend?
    Cheers

Pull em out and have a look at the insulators. They should be light grey to white. If they are dark coloured they should be replaced. Iridium's should run for ages but the plugs are not hard to get to so you could just run standard NGK/Bosch ones and change them at 30,000km

eBay have got the iridium ones posted from the US for roughly $100 posted. Does this sound about right?

$12 a plug and they last about 3 times as long as a $4 plug. Sounds about right. I prefer pulling out standard plugs once a year and chucking them. They work just as well within their design life. My 2c worth.

The Iridium is supposed to ignite fuel faster with better combustion ... gives you more power and smoother acceleration.

I've got them in my V6 Astina ... can't say that they do all that on their own. However, coupled with other mods like ignition leads, high octain fuel, better air flow etc ... it could all combine to improve performance. I made these changes when my Astina clicked over 100K ... brought it back to life.

    Cheers

I tried Champion std, NGK platinum and Bosch Super 4's and the Bosch, while being more expensive were the cleanest burning (lowest emission) plus on the dyno-pants seemed to be more responsive.

According to the NGK web site, Iridium plugs are good for about 60K, the platinum (laser cut) and above are good for 100k. (NGK Spark Plugs Australia#) and click on "types"
Iridium on e-bay from $3.50 up to $14.00, the platinum start at $16:00

    Your choice...

So I went to my local Autopro to pick up a few things including the standard NGK plugs, turns out, when my guy rang NGK to find out what the part number was for standard plugs rather than iridium plugs he refused to tell him because Land Rover recommend the iridium plugs. $26.50 for iridium each
    $4.50 for standard plugs each.
He did some digging for me and found the part number so here it is for anyone else who runs into the same hurdle.

Discobaker...I'm not sure if the number you have listed is the "standard plug", but the NGK site recommend PFR5G-11. (because the V8s came with champion platinum : Champion RC11PYPB4: as standard. Same heat range (5) and gap (11 = 1.1mm), but you never need touch for 100k and are available at a very reasonable price depending on where you shop. (see previous post here).

I should probably check mine... been in since I fitted the engine over 2 years ago. What ones do you recommend? Not on gas.
