    Oil leak v8 D2

Over the last 6 weeks my 2002 V8 Disco with 150,000kms has gone from no oil leaks at all to a impressive leak from front crank oil seal, that is covering the undercarriage in a 30km commute. Checking oil every day now and topping up weekly. Also some seeping around the timing case cover also in the same period.

Other than some recent off-road play at Little Desert, only driving has been commute to and from work. Does not seem normal to me for leak to develop so quickly?

Have a new timing case cover gasket and crank seal in the mail, but wondering if the speed that the leak has developed suggests there may be other issues? Anyone have any thoughts on whether this is just 'one of those things' or whether I should be checking for other issues?

    Thanks, Wes

I would suggest double checking the fresh air feed (ventilation) to the rocker cover. If that is blocked there might be a partial vacuum inside the engine at times. The sand then lodges in the vacuum deformed front seal and rips it to shreds. Had that happen to me a couple of times in my rally days.
