Sounds like a lack of castor in the front end. I am not sure what the D2 fix is, possibly castor correction bushes.
Hi all . I just got back from a trip up the coast .I had two mates with me and a full load and a boat on the back 2 tonn or so.
I found that the stearing was very touchy and it was tram lining badly.
This is the first trip i have done since lifting her 50mm. I have put in dobinson springs and bilstein shocks and poly airbags in the back.
Can any one recomend a solution or posible cause of this problem?
Sounds like a lack of castor in the front end. I am not sure what the D2 fix is, possibly castor correction bushes.
Is this also the first time with the boat?
Thinking the tow ball weight has changed as the ball is 50mm higher so moving some weight further back.
Also was the Disco sitting level or sagging in the but?
My thought is not enough weight on the front axle.
But the real question...where are the pics of the big catch![]()
Raise the boat trailer 2" as well. This will help change it back to the level it was previously. Rob![]()
I will post some pics on the fishing shack as soon as i work out how
I have towed with boats and other stuff before and always try and get the load balanced and level , hence the polyairs.
I went for a drive this morning and it is feeling uneasy without a boat on aswell so i think there is something wrong for sure![]()
Or a droped tounge for the tow bar
A 2" lift shouldn't be a problem but there are the odd post having got a speed wobble.
Grab the spanners and check all the susspension bolts are tight.
Look for worn bushes while your at it.
Maybe get it put on an aligner and see what the angles are.
Have a search"speed wabble" too.
Hello freedriver
I got a two inch lift and was told that there was no need for a wheel alignment yet the steering was doing the tramlining thing after the lift had been done. Took the car and got the alignment checked. Sure enough it did need a wheel alignment and no castor correction necessary(a 2" lift shouldn't need castor correction). The problem was fixed instantly!!!
Cheers,
Jason
That is a bit odd. The only adjustment is on toe in / out. A lift won't change it.
Try checking your tyres are all the same too (side to side),, I found that my D1 gets very twitchy if I have uneven pressures in them, or if their too high at the front, then have your front end checked for alignment,,, sometimes it does'nt take much to put it out of wack,,
Had a mob try and fix the front 3 times before we worked it out, they asked me every time if I had checked tyre pressure's,,, They found I had a slow leak in one of the fronts,, when fixed, it solved the initial problem.
Just as well I knew them,, they were'nt happy they had worked on it for so long![]()
If none of the above works, check the top uni joint in the steering column (under the bonnet), mine was worn and the steering was a bit wayward. Replaced it and everything back to normal
