OK.
Firstly,that fuse cover is a V8 version.(I have a spareoff a V8 and checked it against mine).
R8 on mine is for a heated windscreen, not fitted.R14 is ACE,mine has ACE and the relay is there.Has your power steer reservior got 1 or 2 lids???? 2 = ACE.
Steering column fuse box,TD5 dosnt have a relay in the spot with the engine and a lightning bolt, well mine hasnt.
I suggest you contact a local with a Nanocom to see if there is anything showing on the ECU fault register.Could be simple, like the ECU needing security coding matcing.
There is a list of members with Nanocoms etc that are willing to help out in the "Electronic Diagnostics" area
GOODLUCK
Andrew

Lot of info and work to churn through with all that. Much appreciated.
LandyAndy - thanks for checking the relays. I assume the TD5 and V8 fuse covers are the same. Steering reservoir has 1 lid therefore no ACE and I've probably no front window heater either so the lack of relays seems to check out AOK.
QLDMIKE - yep lot 22, can't tell how much it'll cost yet.
Blknight.aus - hard work turning over the motor with an automatic box. Might need to remove radiator to access crankshaft from the front. The overflow tank to radiator top hose is torn. I've taken out overflow tank to try plugging hose ends for pressure test directly. All that'll take time but you're right it makes good sense to check.
I'll see where that all takes me and chase down this mysterious Nanocom assistance if needs be then. Weekend 's over ... grrrh.
Thanks again all.
RE the underbonnet fuse/relays.
YES they are interchangable between V8/TD5 BUT they are different.I have the V8 underbonnet version fitted to try and sort an electrical issue,BUT it is fused/relayed to the TD5 spec.
Your UNDERBONNET cover is a V8 version no doubt. Its identical to the V8 version I have,TD5s have glow plugs, see any glow plug relay on yours???
It seems the under steering coloumn fuse/relays are generic between the 2 engines.
A nanocom reading WILL help you out, expect $200+ for a dealer to look into it.Best seeing what a member with a Nanocom can find.

Pull the ECU out and see what the VIN number on it is..
May have a "non-coded" ECU in there that isnt talking to the BCU.
Hi,
Check out:
1 - crankshaft sensor td5;
2 - If the Ecu is set to immobilize;
3 - If the Ecu is working - Try to fit another ECU on the car
Someone with a nanocom can help you on both number 2 an 3.
Regardss
Sounds familiar try this
*make sure there is fuel in tank at least 10 litres
*Turn key off wait 15 seconds
*Turn key to position 2 (on, lights on dash,) wait 30 seconds
*Repeat steps 1 and 2 six times
*after final 30 second period fully depress acelerator pedal
*keeping the pedal depressed start cranking engine
*keep cranking engine when it fires and starts to run smoothly ease off the accelerator and release the key. If fails to start repeat process.
After 3 attempts and if it doesnt start go back and read what other members have told you.
I always look for the easy solution first and work my way up to the more difficult ones.

Haven't got far with this - damned tax return and the rain got the better of my weekend. The question of finding the Disco 2 connector for ECU diagnostics has come up however. I thought a passenger side connector under the glove box location - see 12 pin female plug on bottom of cutout in photo attached - might be it? Any advice on the connector? Thanks.
About level with your knee when you push the clutch in..
Cheers Ean
